Testing Your Speed

How to do a speedtest:

We're here to help make sure that you can do everything you want to online.

Sometimes, low connection speed can affect your experience.

While speed tests are never totally accurate (becuase you're just measuring how quickly information can sent from the speedtest company's machine to yours), these tests can at least help you to understand if the speed of your connection is close to what it should be.

Such tests are heavily affected by the quality of the location that you're connecting to, and are also affected by how quick or busy your own computer is.

Let's get ready to test:

Make sure that no other programs are running on your computer, and that no-one else is using the internet. Their use will reduce your test result.

We must ask that you only test from a laptop or PC that is connected to your router with an Ethernet cable. WiFi-based speed tests are not accurate and can't be used to accurately measure speed.

We sent an ethernet cable when you joined us. If you can't connect it, take a look here.

We recommend that you download the speedtest.net application:

Can't download it? Perform a less reliable 'web-based' test by clicking here.

What will affect speed test results?

Speed test results are only as good as where you're connecting to.

See the screenshot above? To pick a different location to test to before you hit 'GO', click the location as shown in the bottom-left and a list of alternatives will appear.

We recommend testing a few different locations that are hosted by larger well-known companies (such as Vodafone in London) to get the best possible results.

Please remember that these test results don't tell the whole story.
